Samsung has developed the industry’s first 12GB LPDDR4 DRAM modules and they have started mass production in their 20nm process. The new RAM features 50% greater density than previous 8Gb chips. Samsung will implant the new 12Gb chips in their new smartphones with 6GB of RAM capacity using a four 12Gb chip package, also a 3GB RAM using two 12Gb chips in a single package. The new RAM will take up the same amount of physical space as an existing 3GB’s and also it will 30% faster than their predecessors, with a per-pin speed of 4266Mbps, which can provide 34Gbps of bandwidth over its 64-bit bus. The 12GB LPDDR4 DRAM will begin mass produce for future smartphones with 6GB of RAM onboard.
