NVIDIA, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Monolith Productions today announced they are collaborating on the PC version of the Middle-earth: Shadow of War video game.
The PC version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War will feature NVIDIA Ansel, NVIDIA’s in-game photography tool. NVIDIA is also working with Monolith on other advanced PC features such as high dynamic range (HDR) lighting, which creates a wider range of color and brightness, making the game more lifelike and immersive.
“NVIDIA is an important partner that brings a wealth of expertise on PC gaming along with a surplus of developer resources and advanced gaming technologies,” said Kevin Stephens, Vice President and Studio Head, Monolith Productions. “We are working with NVIDIA on multiple aspects of Middle-earth: Shadow of War— from driver-based stability and performance, to cutting-edge technologies such as Ansel and HDR.”
Set between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an open-world action RPG that continues the original narrative of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Players will be engrossed in a richer, more personal and expansive world full of epic heroes and villains, iconic locations, original enemy types, more personalities and a new cast of characters with untold stories, all brought to life by the award-winning Nemesis System.
“It is an honor to help Monolith deliver Middle-earth: Shadow of War,” said Tony Tamasi, senior vice president of Content and Technology at NVIDIA. “The subtle details in things such as lighting make games more immersive, so we work closely with game developers and help them use our technology to realize their vision for their creations.”
NVIDIA’s team of visual effects engineers has worked closely with Monolith in the development of Middle-earth: Shadow of War, lending its expertise in the latest graphics technologies and putting NVIDIA’s vast development resources, which includes visual effects libraries, developer tools, research papers, source code sample and more, at Monolith’s disposal.
This collaboration helps bring the PC platform’s advanced gaming features to Middle-earth: Shadow of War and maximize the performance benefits of the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 10-series GPUs for PC gamers. As the game’s launch approaches, NVIDIA and Monolith will continue to performance tune, increase platform stability and finalize support for features and technologies only offered on the GeForce GTX PC gaming platform, such as NVIDIA SLI™, Game Ready Drivers, NVIDIA G-SYNC™ monitor technology, optimized playable settings and GeForce Experience™.
