Asus has launched USB 3.1 UPD Panel, world’s first dual USB 3.1 Type-C front panel. This new 5.25 inch panel allows user’s access two front panel USB 3.1 Type-C port. USB 3.1 Type-C operates at a maximum rated speed of 10 Gbit/s compared to USB 3.0’s 5 Gbit/s. However, to access this bandwidth, your motherboard requires a SATA Express port.
The installation process is extremely simple and involves 3 easy steps. Firstly, feed the UPD panel into your preferred 5.25-inch drive bay. Next, connect the SATA Express cable to your PC’s motherboard and plugs two Molex power to the front bay.
If you don’t want this to put in your front bay, then you can easily remove the covers and take the PCB and install the card in a PCI-E expansion slot.
Asus USB 3.1 UPD Panel has other advantages too, like Power Delivery 2.0 standard, this allows fast charging and provide power up to 100W. However, to take advantage of this additional power, the device being charged has to support the Power Delivery 2.0 standard.
Right now USB 3.1 is new in the market so the majority of cases does not support it.
